In this masterclass, Gowri Ramnarayan shares her experiences in writing, directing, designing and producing stage plays, and suggests ways of adapting and transforming theatre practises given the constraints of a global pandemic.

  • playwriting, or devising and performing a script using available material to create a theatre production;
  • methods and strategies for directing and producing the work;
  • highlighting burning social concerns and questions which might generate/inspire the work without reducing into “slogans” 

The session will invite dialogue on how to keep the fires of theatre burning, creating and sustaining pockets of community for parallel theatre and art through times of social distancing and lockdown, now and in the future.

Piyush Mishra is an Indian film and theatre actor, music director, lyricist, singer and scriptwriter. Mishra graduated from National School of Drama, Delhi in 1986. Thereafter, he started his career in Hindi theatre in Delhi. Over the next decade, he established himself as a theatre director, actor, lyricist and singer. He moved to Mumbai in 2002, receiving acclaim for his acting in
Maqbool (2003) and Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). As a film lyricist and singer, he is noted for his songs “Arre Ruk Ja Re Bandeh” in Black Friday, (2004), “Aarambh Hai Prachand” in Gulaal (2009), “Ik Bagal” in Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 1, (2012), and “Husna” in MTV Coke Studio, (2012).

In this masterclass, he will be talking about an actor, about the craft of acting and how spirituality plays a role in it.

At present, Chatterjee, in Madhya Pradesh Natya Vidyalaya, is known for his vast range of acting (teaching) with deep literary understanding. He is a gold medalist from the National School of Drama, Delhi for best acting.Chatterjee does theatre in his hometown of Bhopal.
